PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE COMMENT!!

This is a pic of Kiwi, my Nanday Conure (Nandayus nenday).
Nandays are awesome little birds. They have a huge personality in a little body and are very intelligent (though they can make you wonder at times XD.)

Here's some facts about Kiwi himself:

He was a rescue and I got him just under a year ago. It'll be a year in, I believe, January 2011.

Kiwi is about a year and a half old. He'll (not sure if he's really male or not, haven't gotten him DNA sexed yet) live to about 45 years or so, possibly longer.

He eats a diet of seeds (very few) and pellets made for small parrots. He loves strawberries, though he can't have them too often because of the seeds. Plus we don't get them that often XD.

He lives in my room in a cage, though he really only stays in it when I'm not home, if he's been bad and is in time out, and when it's bed time. If he doesn't get his beauty sleep, he gets very cranky.

He also looooves water. I have to change his bowl every day, whereas I only have to change my Amazon's every other day, because he'll swim in it.

He's not afraid to speak his mind and let me tell you, he's got a vocabulary worse than a sailor when he's mad. He's hard to understand a lot of the time, but once you get used to how he talks and figure out what he means by everything he says, it gets easier to understand him.

He's not the best talker in the world. His speech is nothing compared to Jazzy, my Amazon. But I love him all the same. Even if he didn't talk, he'd still be my little loud mouthed buddy.

Hmm let's see....what else is there to say about him.....oh yeah! He's extremely protective of me. I've only had him for about 7 months, but he took to me within a week of him living here. He won't let anyone else near him and if you get too close, he'll attack you. He hates when someone comes into my room and he'll scream and scream until the person who isn't supposed to be there, leaves.

I highly recommend a Nanday for a pet, or should I say, a life long companion? However, make sure you have experience handling parrots and birds.
Nandays can bite and they can bite hard. Kiwi has drawn blood on me before.

If you've never owned a bird or a parrot larger than a cockatiel, please do your research before adding a nanday to your family. They can be extremely loud and if you don't like a lot of noise, then a parrot isn't for you.
Also, parrot food can be expensive. As well as toys, perches, big enough cages, etc. Please be sure you have the money available to take care of one of these awesome birds.
Owning a nanday or any other type of parrot is a life long commitment. If a parrot becomes bonded with you and you get rid of it, it can die from depression. They won't always, but it has been known to happen. So please please please! Think things through entirely before getting a parrot. Some can live 80+ years. They also need plenty of attention. If you can't give them that, at least 4+ hours a day, EVERY DAY, then a parrot isn't for you.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I normally don't put a comment this long or anything like this on a pic, but since Kiwi is a real life friend, I feel it's necessary to do so and to give anyone who might look at this pic and read the comment, some insight on owning a parrot or possibly owning one. They are like a child and like a human child, they need a lot of attention.

But anywho, the pic took me about 3 hours. (Kiwi wouldn't hold still when I was trying to use him for references XD and the computer is too slow to look up pics T.T)

Done in Photoshop Elements 2 with a Wacom Graphire tablet.

Pic is (c) to me :iconboduke2009:
Kiwi is owned by me. No stealie!!! You can use the if you ask and credit me, but don't edit it.
